BASES Outreach Project

Through 2021, the BASES Board agreed to establish a BASES Outreach Project Team, the aim of which is to increase public engagement and awareness of BASES. The following members were appointed: Prof John Dickinson FBASES (Chair), Mastveer Ghatahora, Dr Sarah Gilchrist FBASES, Dr James Johnstone, Prof Zoe Knowles FBASES, George Mitchell, Dr Sarah Powell, Dr Andy Sparks.

Project 1 - public talk, November 2021

The first project delivered was that of a public talk, which was open to any interested parties. This free, public session, entitled From Podium to Pillow: How to Sleep Well to Optimise Health and Performance took place from 7 pm to 8 pm on Wednesday 17 November 2021, during the virtual BASES 2021 Conference.

To view the recording of the public talk, presented by Dr Sarah Gilchrist FBASES (Gilchrist Performance) and Dr Luke Gupta (English Institute of Sport), please click here.

Project 2 - careers in sport and exercise sciences

BASES has produced several short videos from practitioners who have forged a career in various industries, following completion of a sport and exercise science related degree.

Here are a number of interview style videos explaining what the practitioner is currently doing within their role, providing an overview of qualification and training they completed and any networking/work experience they undertook to help them along in their career.

We hope the short videos prove helpful to school-age students (aged between 13 and 18 years old) to engage them with a better understanding of what they can do with a degree related to sport and exercise science.

1. Prof John Dickinson FBASES, Chair of the BASES Outreach Project Team

2. Amy Spencer, Registered Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Practitioner Sports Psychologist, Southampton Football Club

3. Beth Mitchell, Active Ageing Lead, Greater Sport
