Membership Categories and Fees

The table below shows BASES membership categories, fees and the eligibility criteria for each category.

Open to those possessing a bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree in a
field related to sport and exercise science; or a degree in another area
but working within the sport and/or exercise sciences field.

Open to anyone studying: a university degree (bachelor’s or master’s),
BTEC, Level 3 Diploma, college course or A-levels, who has an interest in
the field of sport and exercise science.

Open for Three years to all students who have recently completed a
bachelor’s or master’s degree in the field of sport and exercise science;
and for anyone studying towards a doctoral degree (e.g. PhD).

Open to anyone who qualifies for professional membership but lives
outside the UK. Accredited members living outside the UK must be
professional members.

Open to anyone with an interest in sport and exercise science, but
who does not possess a bachelor's degree or qualify for any other
category of membership.

Open to schools, colleges, NGBs, private companies and sports clubs
with an interest in sport and exercise science.


Additional Information

Student membership lasts for up to 4 years and is intended for individuals actively studying towards a degree in sport and/or exercise science (bachelor's or master's). After 4 years as a student member, BASES requires evidence of continuing study to process student membership renewal.

BASES also offers a 3 year student membership designed for undergraduate students. The cost for 3 year student membership is £69, working out at just £23 per year.

Graduate membership is for recent graduates of a bachelor's or master's degree in sport and/or exercise science; and for individuals on a sport and exercise science related PhD programme. Graduate membership lasts for 3 years unless studying towards a PhD. Members who are enrolled on a PhD programme are eligible to remain as graduate members until the completion of their PhD.

Affiliate organisations receive 3 printed copies (upon request) of the BASES Careers Guide each year.

  • You can become a member at any time through the year. Membership is annual and the renewal date is 12 months from the date of joining
  • Annual direct debits: payments from your bank will be taken within 7 working days of your join date/renewal date.
  • Monthly direct debits: the first payment from your bank will be taken within 7 working days of your join date; subsequent payments will then occur on, or around, the same date every month.
  • Memberships are non-refundable
