Suitable for SE candidates, postgraduate students and junior employees in professional sport.

This course will introduce attendees to the application of tracking data in the context of an elite sporting environment.

Primarily, attendees will explore the relationship between locomotive (GPS derived), mechanical (inertial sensor derived) and cardiovascular parameters, contextualised by sport and situation (training & match).

Practical sessions for data collection, processing, assimilation and reporting will introduce attendees to the steps required to maximise data quality, and to calibration of message depending upon the recipient.

Learning objectives and outcomes

Level 1
No assumptions will be made about previous exposure to tracking technologies.

The goals of the session will be to:

  • Introduce candidates to the value and limitations of athlete tracking technologies in sporting environments
  • Understand how component parts of tracking systems (GPS, inertial sensors, HR integration) can be used to address sport-specific performance questions
  • Give candidates the opportunity to collect and analyse tracking data from a practical session
  • Explore how information from tracking technologies can be used to inform the design of periodised training plans

Level 2 date to be confirmed.
