The ISSN Graduate Diploma is dedicated to further improving the standards of education in the sports and exercise nutrition industry. Our course guides each and every student through a detailed and thorough ‘education’ process, which includes a unique blend of theoretical science and applied skills, delivered by world leading research scientists and practitioners in the field. This innovative approach to learning ensures that upon graduation students acquire the necessary skills and understanding to be credible and effective applied practitioners in the field of applied sports and exercise nutrition.

Target Audience:

Students with a background in Strength and Conditioning, Sports/Exercise Science, Sports Physiology, Nutrition, and Dietetics. Many applicants also have MSc / PhD degrees and other advanced professional credentials (i.e. BASES Accredited Sport Scientists, Physios, RDs, MDs etc.).

Start Dates:

Enrolment runs throughout the year. Courses commence 4 times a year based on enrolment date:

  • February (1 Dec-28 Feb enrolment)
  • May (1 Mar-31 May enrolment)
  • August (1 Jun-31 Aug enrolment)
  • November (1 Sep-30 Nov enrolment).

Students are given two years to complete the course from the date of enrolment.

Contact Duration:

200 hours of total learning time

Blended (contact + online) learning: £2,999 + VAT
Distance (100% online) learning: £2,499 + VAT

Pay in monthly instalments:
Blended learning: 12 monthly payments of £300 + VAT. Total cost = £3,600 + VAT
Distance learning: 12 monthly payments of £240 + VAT. Total cost = £2,880 + VAT


This program can be undertaken from anywhere in the world via our bespoke online learning portal (like Moodle), with the periodic contact sessions also filmed and uploaded to the portal for students to re-watch or for the online only students to benefit from.

Taught weekend lecture sessions take place at Middlesex University, London, UK. These sessions are held four times each year
*exclusively for students who enrol on the blended learning version of the program

Learning Outcomes and Objectives:

  1. Critically discuss the role of nutrition and related topics (i.e., exercise physiology) in optimising sports and exercise performance
  2. Critically evaluate the role of nutritional supplements and ergogenic aids. Raise and maintain awareness of safe supplementation procedures in line with UKAD ‘100% Me’ policy.
  3. Develop evidence-based dietary strategies, with a food first ethos, to meet the nutritional goals of athletes whilst appreciating the demands of the athletes’ lifestyle?

Students are provided with the core text book ‘Essentials of Sports Nutrition and Supplements’, research paper of the week, and are encouraged to purchase core and recommended texts.

Qualification Gained:

Upon successful graduation of the program each student will receive an internationally recognised
post-graduate level diploma – the ISSN Diploma in Applied Sports and Exercise Nutrition (Dip.ISSN).

They will also become a certified sports nutritionist under the International Society of Sports Nutrition (CISSN). Those students who have a related undergraduate level degree will also be eligible to apply for registration on the UK Sport and Exercise Nutrition Graduate Register (SENr).

Course Leader and Staff Team:

Laurent Bannock is the founder and director of Guru Performance with over 25 years of practitioner experience in the fields of nutrition, fitness and performance. He currently acts as a consultant to a variety of professional teams, recreational & elite level athletes, and the military.

Laurent is a Registered Sports and Exercise Nutritionist (SENr)), and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA).

His academic qualifications include a Master of Science degree in Exercise Science and Health Promotion from California University of Pennsylvania (USA), a Master of Science Degree in Nutrition (Huntington College, TN, USA), and a Post Graduate Certificate in Strength & Conditioning from Middlesex University (UK), where he is also a Professional Doctorate candidate (DProf) in Exercise Physiology and Performance Nutrition (expected late 2017).

Laurent being is a well-known practitioner-researcher and educator in the field of Sports & Exercise Nutrition, with a number of publications in peer reviewed journals, and is the host of the highly acclaimed ‘We Do Science’ Podcast.

Laurent is a highly experienced educator & lecturer and is the program director (and founder) for the international ISSN Diploma post graduate program, as well being a senior lecturer and program leader for the MSc Sport & Exercise Nutrition program at Middlesex University, London.
