World Environment Day
5th June 2023
World Environment Day is celebrated annually on 5 June and encourages awareness and action for the protection of the environment. To celebrate World Environment Day, thanks to our Climate Change Action Team (CCAT), these are some of the things that BASES is doing to help address climate change:
- Identifying the actions that we can take to reduce the carbon emissions of both the Association and the profession as a whole.
- Supporting the CCAT to publish work and create resources that members can use.
- Exploring how the criteria for our recognition of Degree programmes could include items related to climate change.
- Working with Anglia Ruskin University on a project entitled ‘Climate change and sustainability: Shaping practice across the Sport and Exercise Science sector project’.
You can find more information about the work of our CCAT here.
The Sport and Exercise Scientist (TSES) is the official quarterly publication of BASES. It is available free to BASES members and is currently the #1 member benefit. In its current form, TSES is one of BASES’ largest contributors to our carbon emissions, something that is a front and centre consideration with our pledge to net zero. We also recognise that many people would now also like to access TSES in different ways, via different devices more readily, and in a more accessible way. The Board is now looking to move TSES away from a physical, hard copy, which is posted out to our members, to a professionally looking, digital version that Members can access and view on various devices. You can read about the current tender brief here.
