Vale Professor Edward Winter

BASES is sad to learn of the sudden and unexpected passing of Prof Edward Winter. Ed made a sustained and substantial contribution to BASES for more than 35 years; a former Secretary and Director of BASES, he was made a BASES Fellow in 1998. Ed organised the very first BASES Student Conference back in 1988, and he authored the Sport and Exercise Physiology Testing Guidelines: Volume I – Sport in 2006 and co-authored the BASES Expert Statement on Ethics and Participation in Research of Young People In 2011. Ed will be dearly missed by all in the Sport and Exercise Science community. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.

His cortege will travel along Abbeydale Road South at around 2.50pm before passing the Hallamshire Squash Club at approx 3pm and his former office at Collegiate Hall at around 3.05pm where those who knew him may pay their respects along the way.
We also plan to have a celebration of his life post-lockdown, possibly next summer.
