Request to identify Athena Swan / Race Equality Charter Mark advisors / critical friends
26th April 2023
A recent meeting of the BASES Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Group (EDI AG) discussed increasing activity associated with the promotion of EDI and an accompanying increase in academic departments attaining the Athena Swan equality charter award and / or feeding into Institutional Race Equality charter mark awards. With this in mind, BASES would like to proactively support EDI work across the sector and encourage the exchange of knowledge and good practice between its members to ensure that the principles of EDI are embedded, as much as possible, across our sector. We are therefore calling on experienced BASES colleagues who would be willing to support and offer guidance and help to less experienced colleagues at other institutions in the capacity of a ‘critical friend’.
If you have experience of either charter mark and would be willing to support and guide a colleague through their first application, please can you email Ian Wilson, BASES CEO (iwilson@bases.org.uk) stating;
- Your name and Institution
- Which charter mark you have experience of
- What method you would be able to support a colleague going through the process for the first time (phone call, email, etc.), providing those associated contact details.
The EDI AG hopes to collate a document that would be housed on the EDI member-only page of the website, listing willing ‘critical friends’ so that colleagues about to undertake a charter mark application could refer to the list and seek support from an experienced advisor in the field.
Thank you
