National Inclusion Week 2020 - What inclusion means to me: Dr Emma Ross

1st October 2020

As part of National Inclusion Week (28 September to 2 October 2020), and in line with the recently established Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee, BASES will be sharing stories from the EDI Committee Members on what inclusion means to them, to help raise awareness about Inclusion in the workplace.

National Inclusion Week 2020:

What does inclusion mean to me?

One of my favourite quotes is from Dr Suess - ‘Today you are you, that is truer than true, there is no one alive who is youer than you’. I love it because it embraces the fact that everyone is different, and that difference, that diversity, is what makes the world colourful and vibrant, strong and resilient. But only if everyone is seen, heard and accepted, and if our differences can be embraced in our relationships, our communities, our work and our families, if our differences can be met with curiosity and a safe space to share perspectives. That is what inclusion means to me.

In my current work, I am passionate about how we recognise every woman’s unique journey through life and equip her with the skills and knowledge to empower her to be an architect of her own health and wellbeing. Inclusion, for me, is enabling everyone to have access to the same opportunities to learn and live healthy and happy lives.
