Marking 30 years of BASES

2nd February 2023

BASES is proud and pleased to announce it will be celebrating its 30th Anniversary this year.

BASS, the British Association of Sports Sciences, was established in 1984 in order to be able to speak with one more powerful voice about UK sports sciences. The original aims of BASS were to facilitate communication amongst those actively engaged in the scientific study of sport and to promote the dissemination of information derived from the scientific study of sport.

In 1993, under the careful guidance of the then Chair Prof Roger Bartlett FBASES, BASS became BASES, the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences, in anticipation of the crucial role that physical activity would be seen to have in society. Since then, BASES has grown and evolved as both a membership association and a professional body.

We have an exciting year ahead with several celebrations planned to help mark this 30 year milestone, so please keep an eye out for details.

To start off the celebrations, we have produced a limited edition BASES 30th Anniversary logo (as shown above), which all BASES members can download via the Members' Area. We have also created a dedicated 30th Anniversary page on the BASES website and would like to populate this with memories, pictures and achievements across those 30 years, submitted by our members. If you have anything you would like to add to this page, please email enquiries@bases.org.uk using the subject heading 30th Anniversary. We look forward to sharing your memories on this page.

To ensure you keep up to date, please follow BASES on Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram.
