Call to action: Task and Finish Group to review the organisational values

3rd November 2021

The BASES Operational Plan has a deliverable (D64) to establish a Task and Finish Group to review the organisational values. The current BASES’ values and behaviours are:

Equality and Diversity

We aim to create a culture and practices that recognise, respect, value, and embrace difference for everyone’s benefit. We strive to attract and retain talented people to work for BASES and to support our wider work. We are dedicated to promoting and celebrating the positive effect that diversity has both in our workplace and within our members.

Ethics and Integrity

We strive to do the right thing. We take responsibility for our actions and the work we produce. We consider the implications of our actions on others. We will challenge unethical and non-inclusive practices and behaviours. We show integrity in all that we do. We will consistently demonstrate discretion, confidentiality, unity and responsibility.

Openness and Transparency

We are committed to open and honest working. Information will be provided in easily understandable forms and media; it will be freely available and directly accessible to our members.

Good Governance

We will take personal responsibility for our actions and decisions. We will interact with others and make decisions with integrity and honesty. We will not fail to challenge management but will do so in a way that is constructive and respectful.

We are seeking BASES members with an interest in and some experience of organisational culture and values, who would be willing to be a part of a Task and Finish Group to review the current values and behaviours, making proposals for any changes and improvements that will be shared across the membership for review and feedback, before the Board would sign off on the final values and behaviours.

We are looking for the Group to have around six members which would initially meet via Zoom to fully discuss the brief and agree an action plan. Work would then take place via email, with the Group coming together over Zoom to discuss progress at various stages of the task.

Our aim is to attract the widest range of the most suitable candidates from the BASES community. We are committed to equity, diversity and inclusion as part of our recruitment policies. We therefore encourage applications from the entire BASES community who meet the required criteria, but we particularly encourage applications from women, individuals from ethnically diverse communities, those who have a disability, or members of LGBTQ+ community.

To apply for this Task and Finish Group, please email the Executive Director (iwilson@bases.org.uk) outlining:

- why you are volunteering for this Task and Finish Group

- what skills and experience you would bring to the Group

- any ideas you have about embedding the values into the BASES culture

Please submit your expression of interest email by noon on Friday 26 November 2021. Please mark this email as confidential and within the subject header, please include BASES Values’ Task and Finish Group.
