Call to Action: Expressions of interest - BASES Accreditation Advisory Group Reviewers (x2)
7th November 2023
BASES Accreditation is a professional standard, widely recognised by employers in the sport and exercise industry, which is awarded to individuals who have demonstrated they have the necessary knowledge, skills and experience to be safe and fit to practise as a sport and exercise scientist. BASES Accreditation demonstrates an applicant’s competence to provide services to client groups, based on an independent, peer-led review process, overseen by the BASES Accreditation Advisory Group (AG), which reports into the BASES Professional Standards Committee.
The Accreditation Advisory Group is looking for two new reviewers to join the team to assist in reviewing Accreditation applications that come directly from the Supervised Experience programme. We are changing the reviewing process slightly for these applications to make it more robust and to ensure that vigorous quality assurance is in place.
As an Accreditation Reviewer for BASES, you will play a vital role in assessing and evaluating Sport and Exercise Scientists seeking accreditation. You will be responsible for conducting thorough reviews and assessments electronically to determine an individual’s compliance with established standards and criteria. The ideal candidate will be a BASES Accredited professional member with Charted Scientist Status, who has experience with the BASES Supervised Experience programme and who is passionate for upholding the highest professional standards for Sport and Exercise Sciences.
The commitment would include around eight days per year involving two Advisory Group meetings (two days, usually in February/March and August/September), reviewing (c. four days, usually in January and July), scheme/process development (c. two days).
If you are interested in applying for the roles, the terms of reference for the Group can be found here (AG 7, p44-45).
The appointment of the above roles will be via a formal, open and transparent recruitment process, with the aim of attracting the widest range of the most suitable talent. At BASES, we are committed to Fairness, Professionalism, Honesty, Responsibility and Excellence. We strive to improve our ways of working to be more inclusive and diverse, to accelerate our impact on society and live up to our Values. We acknowledge that we lack representation from various underrepresented groups and therefore strongly encourage applications that will amplify the voices of people with a disability, those from culturally and ethnically diverse backgrounds, women or gender diverse people in STEMM and members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Please notify the Chief Executive Officer (iwilson@bases.org.uk) if you require reasonable adjustments throughout the recruitment process.
If you would like to discuss the above role in more detail, before making an application, please email Dr Paul Jones FBASES, Chair BASES Accreditation Advisory Group (P.A.Jones@salford.ac.uk[IW1] [LP2] ) or Lisa Phillips BASES Professional Development Manager (lphillips@bases.org.uk).
To apply for these vacancies, please submit a maximum of two pages of A4, outlining:
- why you are applying for this role,
- what skills and experience you would bring to the Accreditation Advisory Group,
- how you will improve equity, diversity, and inclusion within the context of the Accreditation Advisory Group,
- and any ideas you have about moving forward the work and priorities of the Accreditation Advisory Group.
Please email this to iwilson@bases.org.uk by 10 am on Wednesday 29 November 2023. Please mark this email as confidential and within the subject header, please add “BASES Accreditation Advisory Group Reviewer for the Supervised Experience Route.”
