BASES Psychology Division Day at Leeds Beckett University

28th May 2019

Professor Zoe Knowles FBASES (BASES Psychology Division Chair) and Pete Mackreth (Dean of School, Carnegie School of Sport) welcomed delegates to the BASES Psychology Division Day event at Leeds Beckett University on Monday 20 May.

Professor Sue Backhouse FBASES started the programme with a highly engaging keynote, which explored the role of the Sport and Exercise Psychologist in protecting the integrity of sport. This was followed by an update on the Sport and Exercise Psychology Accreditation Route (SEPAR) to HCPC registration by Professor Richard Thelwell FBASES, in which details of the process were illuminated.

In the afternoon, delegates completed a number of exceptional workshops, that included: Dr’s Andrew Wood and Martin Turner exploring practitioner focused utilisation of REBT: Dr Adam Gledhill discussing how to rehabilitate the athlete, not just the injury; and finally, Dr Andy Daly-Smith (Leeds Beckett University) evaluating the impact of physical activity on cognition and academic performance in the school setting.

The BASES Psychology Division Committee would like to thank all presenters and delegates for their engagement with, and commitment to the event. Recordings from the day are available to view within the Members' Area of the BASES website, under Division Hub - Psychology - Resources.  Slides will be uploaded shortly.
