BASES is extremely sad to learn of the passing of Dr Kieran Kingston, a former BASES member and accredited practitioner, who sadly passed away earlier this month following a short battle with illness.
Kieran joined Cardiff Metropolitan University (UWIC) in 2000, having completed his PhD at Bangor University, and contributed widely through his research, teaching, and leadership to the undergraduate and postgraduate provision in Sport Psychology and Research Methods. During his time at Cardiff Met he was Discipline Director for Sport Psychology, Discipline Director Coordinator and Undergraduate Dissertation Coordinator. Kieran was a talented researcher and performance psychologist, and highly regarded for his research in motivation and goal setting. Indeed, such was the quality of his research, his seminal paper “Kingston and Hardy (1997). Effects of Different Types of Goals on Processes that Support Performance” was and remains one of the most influential empirical studies in the field. After leaving Cardiff Met in 2016, he took up roles at the University of South Wales, Open University, and St Mary’s University Twickenham and established a successful business consultancy.
Kieran’s funeral will take place on Tuesday 23 May 13.30pm at St Oswalds's Church, Ashbourne, Derbyshire, DE6 1AN followed by a reception at Ashbourne Golf Club DE6 1ND. All friends and colleagues are welcome. The family have asked for a 'non-funeral' dress code to celebrate Kieran's life. He will be greatly missed by the sport and exercise sciences community. BASES extends sincere condolences to his friends and family.
