BASES opens its first diversity monitoring survey
17th September 2020
By promoting equity, diversity and inclusion, the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences will create greater opportunity for any individual to fulfil their science - and practice-based potential, irrespective of their background or circumstances. In so doing it will also help to better serve society by attracting the widest possible talent to the sport and exercise science workforce, fostering a greater diversity of scientific ideas, research, practice and technology.
BASES is committed to widening participation in science education, practice, and the workplace. In July 2020, the Board of BASES appointed a Board Diversity Champion, Mrs Satvinder (Vinny) Kaur Leach, and established a new Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee, details of which can be found here.
BASES is committed to ensuring that it is accessible to everyone regardless of gender identity, ethnic identity or nationality, disability, religion or belief, sexual orientation, sex, socioeconomic background or age. We aim to foster an environment free from harassment and unfair and unlawful discrimination where everyone is treated fairly. We gather and analyse diversity data to assess the extent to which we are achieving our diversity and inclusion aims. We use this information to review our processes to ensure they are fair and transparent, and do not have an adverse impact on any particular group.
BASES has launched its first diversity survey and hopes as many members as possible will complete the short survey. The survey is open now and is totally anonymous. It will close at 11:59 pm on Sunday 18 October 2020.
