BASES BIG 2019 #BIGintheHUD

To coincide with National Biomechanics Day on 10 April 2019 - a worldwide celebration of all things Biomechanics, The University of Huddersfield hosted a very successful Biomechanics Interest Group event themed ‘Applied Biomechanics - the application to real life’. The ever popular event had over 120 registered delegates from across the country and saw a range of stimulating and informative talks from students, lecturers and Professors.

Prof Bill Baltzopoulos FBASES from Liverpool John Moores University presented a fascinating keynote examining the latest technology he and his team are employing studying ‘Biomechanics of the musculoskeletal system in-vivo and implications for muscle and joint forces in different applied conditions’. Alongside this keynote were five invited speakers whose excellent talks really addressed the conferences theme, from Dr Richard Page (Edge Hill University) discussing the application of isokinetics in soccer and Dr Ian Bezodis (Cardiff Metropolitan University) discussing some great work the mechanics of different sprint phases to Dr Lisa Alcock (Newcastle University) presenting her research into the Biomechanics of Parkinsons. Dr Athanassios Bissas (Leeds Beckett University) and Cat Shin (English Institute of Sport) both had different takes on the practicalities on ‘doing biomechanics’ in the real world.

If that wasn’t enough Biomechanics the day also featured five excellent podium presentations and ten poster presentations. The posters were all of a very high standard but huge congratulations to Timmion Skervin and his group who won the National Biomechanics Day prize for the best poster.

Alongside the poster presentations were exhibitors from Summit Medical, HAB Direct, Catapult, Tracksys, Quintic, Biosense and Qualisys. These companies alongside C-Motion and the fantastic facilities at the University of Huddersfield made such an excellent event possible. We are looking forward to next year already.
