BASES announces a new Non-Executive Director appointment

6th February 2023

Following an extensive open recruitment in December 2022, the Board of BASES is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Helen Rippon as a new Non-Executive Director (NED). Helen takes up post this month and will attend her inaugural board meeting on 15 February 2023. Helen is CEO of Worldwide Cancer Research, a multi-million pound charity that kickstarts cancer cures of the future by seed-funding pioneering discovery research across the globe. A scientist by background, Helen has a PhD in molecular biology and started her career as a Research Fellow at Imperial College London. After nearly a decade in academia, Helen then moved to the third sector, leading the medical research funding programmes of Age UK and Prostate Cancer UK, before joining Worldwide Cancer Research in 2012 as Director of Research.

Prof Zoe Knowles FBASES, Chair of BASES, said, ‘We are delighted to welcome Helen who brings a wealth of experience and perspective to the Board. As BASES advances its 2021-25 strategy, Helen’s specific skills around Governance, research funding, evaluation of research outputs, strategic partnerships, Intellectual Property and the commercialisation of academic research will all prove invaluable.’
