BASES and the International Universities Strength and Conditioning Association have signed a Memorandum of Understanding

17th October 2024

The International Universities Strength and Conditioning Association (IUSCA) is a leading not-for-profit organisation dedicated to advancing the field of strength and conditioning globally within university settings. IUSCA's mission is to support and promote excellence in strength and conditioning education, research, and practice. Through various initiatives, including accreditation programmes, educational resources, and professional development opportunities, IUSCA aims to enhance the quality and standards of strength and conditioning practitioners. By fostering a collaborative network of professionals, IUSCA contributes to the growth and development of the discipline, ensuring that practitioners are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in their roles.

This Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) outlines the agreed collaborative relationship between the IUSCA and BASES for the purposes of enhancing the activities of each organisation and fostering co-operation in international context for the benefit of all professionals involved within the respective organisations.

This MoU aims to develop a mutually respectful relationship that reflects an understanding of each other’s area of remit and expertise and supports practitioners in their field. Both organisations will endeavour to collaborate to further Strength and Conditioning and Sport Science in the UK and globally.

The agreement was signed by Andrew Langford, IUSCA Executive Directorand BASES’ Chief Executive Officer, Ian Wilson, and can be read in full on the BASES website.

IUSCA Executive Director Andrew Langford commented:

"We are pleased to announce our partnership with BASES, reflecting our shared commitment to advancing excellence within the sports sciences. The IUSCA was founded on principles of innovation and collaboration, and this partnership represents a pivotal step in driving the profession forward. As a global leader in strength and conditioning (S&C), it is vital for us to align with other world-renowned organisations like BASES, creating a synergistic impact on students, graduates, and professionals. We are confident this collaboration will foster the enhancement of standards, opportunities, and employability for our shared members and all those engaged in the S&C and sports science fields."

Dr Mitchell Finlay, Chair of the BASES Sport and Performance Division, said: “On behalf of BASES and the Sport & Performance Division in particular, we are delighted to partner with the IUSCA. This partnership represents a shared commitment to collaborate and exchange knowledge and expertise within the two organisations. In the Sport and Performance Division, we recognise the close alignment in the Sport Science and Strength and Conditioning fields, yet we also recognise some distinct differences. As such, in partnering with the IUSCA, we aim to increase the CPD opportunities for our members who wish to upskill and further develop in the area of Strength and Conditioning. Likewise, BASES is committed to developing similar opportunities for the IUSCA and their members. I would like to thank Andrew Langford from the IUSCA for his shared enthusiasm in bringing the two organisations together.”
