BASES member update on events and meetings
25th October 2021
We continue to live in exceptional times due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Since March 2020, the Board has monitored regulations, advice and guidance from the BritishGovernment, the NHS and the Healthand Safety Executive about the safety of our staff and members. Over the last 18 months, the Association has supported our members with sector-leading advice, including the BASES ExpertStatement on Physical Activity and Exercise During Covid-19 “Lockdowns” and“Restrictions”, and the BASESStatement on ‘Reflecting on re-opening? You are not alone’. The BASESCOVID-19 Special Interest Group was established in May 2020, and has shared relevant projects and reading with members. A Position Stand on the ongoing Pandemic is currently being written.
We wish to update members following recent enquiries as to the situation of running meetings and events face-to-face or virtually. The health, safety and wellbeing of members and attendees continues to be paramount.
We recognise that is has been a challenging 18 months, and that members are keen to come together, in person. However, at a recent remote meeting, the Board agreed to continue to deliver virtual events for the immediate future. This will be monitored on a monthly basis.
When it is deemed appropriate to hold events in person, the Board will issue a COVID-19 policy for face-to-face meetings and events, which will include the measures and requirements that need to be put in place by the event organiser, venue and delegates pre-, during and post-event, to ensure that everyone is, and feels, safe at BASES in-person meetings and events.
Thank you all for your understanding and support. We hope to see as many of you as possible at the virtual AGM (15 November 2021) and at the virtual 2021 Annual Conference (16 to 18 November 2021).
