An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified, motivated and enthusiastic Technical Specialist to support the research activities within Sports Science. The successful applicant will be part of a team of research technicians reporting to the Technical Team Leader for Research. This hands-on role will suit someone with developed technical skills from a practical scientific background, with excellent communication skills and the ability to work closely with others. Familiarity with Health and Safety procedures within a laboratory environment would be advantageous. A range of opportunities for career development will be available.
Duties will include assisting researchers with data collection from human participants within the Sports Science Research Laboratories, schools and sporting organisations. This will include advanced skills in biochemistry in the support of analyzing blood samples. The role holder will develop an in-depth knowledge of key pieces of research equipment, ensuring they are calibrated and maintained. They will instruct PhD, MRes and researchers in using equipment, following protocols and helping with analyses in support of the publication of results.Experience of enzyme linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs), biochemistry and other wet laboratory skills would be desirable, as is the ability to interact effectively with participants in experiments. Participation in general cleaning and maintenance of laboratory equipment, and helping with stock control and ordering, will also be required. It will be important that the post-holder ensures that all users of the laboratory contribute to building a collegial atmosphere between all technical staff, academic staff and students ensuring the laboratory is a safe and happy place to work.

You will possess a good standard of general and technical education to NVQ Level 3, City and Guilds level 3, A levels, ONC/OND or equivalent plus extensive practical work experience in a HE environment or similar. It would be desirable that you hold a relevant degree, PhD and/or RSciTech registration and/or membership of a relevant society e.g BASES.
