Employer: Nottingham Trent University
Salary: Grade F (£24,461 - £27,511 p.a.)
Interview date: Week commencing 28 September 2020
Nottingham Trent University is a great place to work. We take care of our staff with flexible packages, career progression and opportunities. We value all our staff because we know that it takes a strong and diverse workforce to maintain the kind of success we have achieved.
Nottingham Trent University was named Guardian University of the year 2019. This followed on from Modern University of the Year in the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018 and University of the Year 2017 in the Times Higher Education awards. We possess state of the art facilities in Physics, Biosciences, Chemistry, Computing, Engineering, Forensics and Sport Science
The Sport Science Department at Clifton has 4 degree programmes, Sport and Exercise Science, Sport Science and Management, Sport Science and Coaching and Exercise, Nutrition and Health and is in the top quartile for Sport Science degrees nationally.
From September the Department of Sport Science enters an exciting new phase when it opens purpose-built laboratories at the Mansfield Campus located at the Vision West Nottinghamshire College at Mansfield. Initially the University will offer a FdSc degree in Sport and Exercise Science and will teach-out other degrees on the Campus including two top-up degrees. Within 12 months a top-up degree in Sport and Exercise Science will be developed.
Joining a small team of academics at the Mansfield campus will be a Senior Technician with significant and relevant experience ideally in a HE or training environment. As the only Sport Science Technician working at the Mansfield campus, this is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic, independent, well-organised and suitably qualified person who can adapt to the challenges of setting-up and maintaining a high caliber laboratory whilst providing a positive customer service.
The role involves setting-up, maintaining and clearing away as necessary equipment for use within physiology, psychology and biomechanical laboratory classes. Equipment includes force plates and motion capture systems including ‘Qualisys Track Manager’, and eye tracking equipment. The technical support also involves work with the treadmills, cycle ergometers, blood analysis systems and gas analysers ensuring that they are calibrated and working correctly, giving instruction on correct use and planning for their care and maintenance.
Although the friendly, supportive team of Sport Science technicians based at Clifton will offer back-up as required, the post holder is expected to work with a significant amount of autonomy alongside a small team of academic staff. A clean driving license would be an advantage as the post holder will be required to attend meetings, training etc at the Clifton Campus and if using own car between campuses then travel expenses will be paid.
