Job Title: Head of Academy Sport Science

We are seeking an exceptional individual to lead our Academy Sport Science team as head of the department. Focusing primarily on the planning and implementation of our physical development strategy throughout the Academy pathway from U9’s to U23’s. 


Working at our Motspur Park Training Ground you will be responsible for ensuring academy player’s receive individualised learning plans across all age groups building on players physical capabilities, in line with the demands of the sport and academy philosophies. You will be required to lead and support both on the pitch and in gym-based sessions.

Working as part of our multi-disciplinary Academy Performance Team you will shape the direction of fitness for the Academy. You will be an accomplished communicator with the ability to work across all departments including the First Team staff to ensure aligned and consistent approaches to physical development across the Club.

Demonstrable experience within the field of strength and conditioning, as well as a proven track record of programme and process implementation which is focused on individualised long-term athlete development is essential. A clear understanding of growth and maturation and the wider implications of physical development across the ages from 8 to 23 is also essential.

You will possess the capacity to lead and deliver on a data science strategy that is aligned with the wider data processes of the Academy and Club. A track record of leading or participating in research projects that have impacted youth development is preferable.

You will be passionate about service excellence ensuring consistent messages to Academy players and parents; showing the necessary desire and commitment to develop players professionally and continuously. Candidates must possess the ability to set up, manage and develop outstanding learning environments that allow young people to feel safe and confident.

Previous experience of working with and supporting the development of children/young adolescents is essential, as are excellent organisational skills.

As a minimum, candidates are required to hold a Masters Degree in Sport Science, Strength & Conditioning or within an equivalent discipline. Preferred requirements include postgraduate qualifications in the field of physical development and BASES High Performance Sport accreditation.

Candidates must also hold in date Basic First Aid for Sport and FA safeguarding qualifications. A more detailed understanding of safeguarding children plus risk assessing is also preferred for this role.
