About BASES
The British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES) is the professional body for sport and exercise sciences in the UK. The Association’s mission is to advance knowledge and evidence-based practice in the sport and exercise sciences for the benefit of human performance, health and education.
In addition to delivering a world-leading annual conference, BASES hosts a Student Conference every year, runs training and development programmes and provides a range of membership services including professional accreditation.
About the role
The main responsibilities are to:
- Ensure effective day-to-day management of the Association under delegated authority from the Board.
- Develop and deliver on the BASES Strategic Plan in the most effective and efficient manner, providing regular updates and reports to the Board;
- Work closely with and support the BASES Chair;
Key deliverables
To implement the BASES Strategic Plan including managing all operational, administrative, financial, logistical, staffing and performance areas as necessary. This will include:
- Acting as the line manager for the BASES Executive Team (4 direct reports) including workload and performance management, appraisals, personal development and weekly team meetings;
- Ensuring the accurate financial administration of all BASES activities and the implementation of appropriate budgetary recording and auditing procedures. This will include the management of quarterly management accounts, production and management of budgets and production of annual end-of-year accounts;
- Managing and developing membership services (with support of the Executive Team) including conferences, workshops, CPD events, publicity and promotional activities;
- Overseeing the strategic and operational management of all accreditations and education programmes (Supervised Experience, SEPAR) offered by BASES to its members;
- Managing all internal IT systems, ensuring accurate maintenance of membership data, adherence to regulations (e.g. GDPR) and efficient execution of administrative tasks;
- Organising and preparing all relevant materials for Board meetings (5 per year), providing updates and reports on progress against strategic objectives and ensuring all actions are followed through;
- Delivering an outstanding Annual Conference in collaboration with a conference management company; producing the programme and abstracts booklet, managing the conference finances, co-ordinating the conference programmes, marketing the conference and post-conference evaluation;
- Attending the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Association, managing the agenda and ensuring any amendments to the Articles and Memorandum of Association and Rules are made where necessary;
- Managing the production and writing of the Annual Report of the Association;
- Regular telephone/Skype meetings with the Chair of BASES to provide updates on work progress and planning/reviewing activities in conjunction with the Strategic Plan;
- Undertaking any other reasonable instruction as requested by the Chair and Board of BASES.
