What will the Q&A sessions be like?
The Q&A sessions are like instant messaging, but designed for groups.
So you sit at your computer. The Q&A Sessions will last for an hour.
Each session will take up to 100 simultaneous guests and advance registration
is required. The expert will lead the session and answer questions. When
you register you will be asked to submit your questions. The quality of
the experience is as much based on the guests and their questions as it
is the expert.
Who are the sessions targeted at?
The sessions are targeted at BASES student members, but any BASES member
can attend. Access to the Q&A sessions is exclusive and free to BASES
members.
How much do the sessions cost?
There is no charge to attend the session - they are free for BASES members.
How do I register?
Click on the registration buttons below, which will take you to an on-line
registration form. You need to register for each Q&A session that
you wish to attend.
What will I be asked for when I register?
Your name, BASES membership number, your e-mail address that the invite
will be sent to and any questions that you would like the expert to consider.
I wish to attend more than one session; do I have to complete a registration
form for each session?
Yes.
What happens once I have registered?
The working day before the session you will receive an e-mail to say whether
your registration was successful or not. If successful, then you will
receive an email with a special link. Just before the start time of the
Q&A session you can click that link to enter your full name. This
is the name other people will see in the Q&A session. A reminder will
be e-mailed to you an hour before the session.
What will I see when I enter the Q&A session?
You will not be able to see conversations that took place before you entered
a room (so don't be late). You'll start with a blank screen.
How long will the sessions last?
One hour, although guests can remain on the system afterwards to continue
chatting if they so wish.
How many people can attend each session?
Each session will take up to 100 simultaneous chatters and advance registration
is required. Places will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.
How do I submit a question?
You are asked to submit your questions when you register. Submitting questions
prior to the session will allow the expert to view the questions beforehand
and this increases the likelihood of them being answered. You can also
submit questions during the session. Guests are politely asked to neither
"hog" a session, nor post questions that require an "essay-length"
response.
I want to attend one of the sessions, but I'm not a BASES member?
You will need to join BASES. You can either do
this online and pay by credit/debit card or complete a hand write membership
form and send by post. Applications are normally processed within 48 hours.
I have registered but can no longer attend the Q&A session, what
do I do?
Please contact Jane Bairstow (jbairstow@bases.org.uk).
Failure to do so may result in registration to other Q&A sessions
being refused.
I can't attend the session but can I access
a summary of the session afterwards?
No but we intend to include summaries of some of the sessions in The Sport
and Exercise Scientist.
