The application of psychology to sport and exercise settings is a relatively
new field, which is rapidly developing and expanding. This branch of psychology
is concerned with understanding the behaviour, mental processes, and well
being of people who are involved in sport and exercise. The Division of
Sport and Exercise Psychology is holding an inaugural conference on the
11th and 12th December, 2008 to further the development of this
field. You can find out more about the conference at: http://www.bps.org.uk/spex/events/events_home.cfm
The Higher Education Academy Psychology Network
and the Hospitality, Leisure, Sport and Tourism Network exist to support
teaching excellence. Therefore, we are sponsoring a session during the
conference to support postgraduates in their teaching. To encourage postgraduates
to attend the conference, we are also making two £50 bursaries available.
These funds can be used to cover conference fees, accommodation or travel
expenses.
The Postgraduates who Teach (PGwT) Network will
administer the bursaries and evaluate them based primarily on personal
statement which should detail in no more than 500 words your interest
in attending this conference and developing your teaching. Special consideration
will be given to applicants who have been active members of the of PGwT
Network and have teaching responsibilities. Learn more about the PGwT
by visiting: http://www.psychology.heacademy.ac.uk/html/postgrads_who_teach.asp
Successful applicants will be asked to write
a brief report or reflection on the teaching session.
