How to Volunteer

To continue developing, BASES needs members to be active contributors to the Association.

BASES is run from a Central Office in Leeds with Dr Claire Hitchings, the Executive Officer, Jane Bairstow, the Office Manager, are the only two full-time paid members of staff with Marsha Stankler and Jane Gillott the Part-time Admin Assistants. The general affairs of BASES are directed by The Board, whose members work in a voluntary capacity. There are another 40 or so volunteers that actively contribute to the association.

As a BASES member you can be an active member in many ways:

  • You can stand for election for one of the committees

  • You can volunteer to be a network rep and promote the benefits of BASES’ membership to students and prospective members in their institution.

  • Student members can volunteer to sit of the Student Advisory Group or they can volunteer to be a student rep in their institution, increasing student awareness and membership of BASES and encouraging greater student participation in BASES activities. For more information, click here

  • BASES are always looking for prospective authors for articles about sport and exercise scientists, book reviewers for The Sport and Exercise Scientist, members of working parties, etc.

If you wish to contribute and help BASES to be the professional body leading excellence in sport and exercise sciences, then please e-mail Jane Bairstow with your contact details and information on how you would like to contribute.
