About the Group

The BASES Cycling Performance Group was founded in December 2005 and now has over 50 members with an academic or professional interest in the science of performance cycling. Dr Louis Passfield of British Cycling is convenor and Andy Kirkland of Scottish Institute of Sport is group organiser.

 

 

Mission Statement

The Mission of the BASES Cycling Performance interest group is to promote excellence in research and application of science of cycling

An action plan in currently being developed by Eleanor Rogers and Andy Kirkland to facilitate the objectives of the group. These objectives are to

(a) promote research, and collaborative work between interested colleagues, in the area of cycling performance from disciplinary, inter- and multi- disciplinary perspectives.

(b) be inclusive of in all disciplines within able-bodied and disabled cycle sport,

(c) to encourage evidence based practice within cycle sport.

(d) disseminate of knowledge to both peer and lay populations

(d) develop and maintain high professional standards for those involved in the Cycling Performance Interest Group.

(e) promote BASES by forming links with Governing Bodies and other relevant groups within cycle sport, both nationally and internationally

(f) to provide a forum in which all of the above can be facilitated.

Members are invited to comment or contribute to this action plan by the 31st of July 2006

BASES Special Interest Group: Cycling Performance

British Cycling Workshop: Multi-disciplinary assessment of an elite cyclist

Dr. Louis Passfield will present a case study which will consist of data and/or information on an elite cyclist competing at an international event. Discussion will consider training/competition strategies and possible ergogenic interventions.

Cycling Module at UCLAN

Chris Edmundson at UCLAN is in the process of validating a cycling specific unit for a sports technology degree. Full details are on the BASES message board. Please contact Chris if you can help.
