BASES Annual Awards

BASES Honorary Fellows Undergraduate Dissertation of the Year Award

BASES Honorary Fellows are pleased to announce a prize of £200 to be spent on BASES products (e.g., BASES membership fees, BASES workshop attendance, BASES conference attendance, etc) for the best undergraduate dissertation made by a 2007-08 UK final year undergraduate in the area of sport and/or exercise sciences. This may be a topic in biochemistry, biomechanics, kinanthropometry, motor learning and control, nutrition, physiology, psychology and sociology as they relate to sport and/or exercise and may encompass an interdisciplinary perspective.

Award Criteria
1. The applicant must be a member of BASES.
2. The applicant must be an undergraduate that graduates in 2008 completing a sport and/or exercise sciences related dissertation.
3. Only one submission per Department is permissible.
4. The closing date is 30 September 2008. The results will be announced in December 2008.
5. Reports will be reviewed and judged on scientific merit, methodological rigour and standard of presentation.
6. The Awards Panel's decision is final in all cases.
7. This award will not be made in the absence of submissions of sufficient merit.
8. The Applicant must submit 3 copies of the required documents to the BASES Office by 30 September 2008.

Philip Read Memorial Award for Recently Qualified Researcher in Sport and Exercise Sciences

Routledge is pleased to award a prize of £500 for published research of outstanding merit made by a recently qualified researcher in the field of sport and/or exercise sciences.

 

Routledge - is a leading international publisher of textbooks, course books, journals and research monographs in sport and exercise science.

Award Criteria
1. The applicant must be a Professional member of BASES.
2. The applicant must have a PhD and no more than 3 years post-doctoral experience.
3. The applicant must submit 3 copies of the required documents to the BASES Office by 1 June 2008.
4. The Awards Panel's decision is final in all cases.
5. The award will not be made in the absence of submissions of sufficient merit.
6. The closing date is 1 June 2008. The results will be announced at the 2008 BASES Annual Conference.

Please note that BASES is keen that no applicant be disadvantaged due to involuntary unemployments, career breaks, etc. so applicants who are ineligible due to these reasons should contact the BASES office for advice.

One award of £200 Elsevier book vouchers for best student oral presentation made as a free communication at the BASES Annual Conference.

Award Criteria
1. The applicant must be the presenting, and thus first named, author of the abstract.
2. The applicant must be a member of BASES.
3. The abstract must be the only one submitted by the applicant for that award.
4. The abstract must not be entered for consideration for any other BASES Annual Conference awards.
5. The work presented must have been completed as part of a first degree, a taught Masters degree or a postgraduate qualification in sport and exercise sciences or a related discipline. Work must be presented within 12-months of completion of the degree.
6. Awards will be given for excellence, reflected in the academic content, presentation and defence quality of the oral presentation.
7. The Awards Panel's decision is final in all cases.
8. The closing date is the deadline for abstract submission.
9. These awards will not be made in the absence of submissions of sufficient merit.
10. The award panel may choose to shortlist presentations for this award based on the scientific merit of the abstracts and to have the shortlisted presentations in a special oral presentation at the BASES Annual Conference.

Brunel University Poster Presentation Award

One award of £200 for the best poster presentation made at the BASES Annual Conference.

 

 

The 2008 BASES Conference is being hosted by Brunel University. The conference will focus on delivering a conference that embraces what is current as well as the Olympic themes of performance, health, physical activity and the legacy of the Games.
