It is advised that anyone seeking the services of a BASES accredited sport and exercise scientist should:
- Confirm that the scientist has the qualifications and experience he or she claims to have;
- Confirm that the scientist has professional indemnity insurance;
- Ascertain the scientist’s past experience working in your sport/activity or area of concern; and
- Ask the scientist under what circumstances he or she might refer the client(s) to another professional (e.g., clinical psychologist).
All Sport and Exercise Scientists accredited by BASES are bound by the BASES Code of Conduct.
If at any time you are not satisfied with the sport and exercise science services that you receive, you are encouraged to first discuss the matter with the scientist. If you think that the matter has still not been resolved and that the scientist has violated the BASES Code of Conduct, you may put your complaint in writing and address it to the Secretary of BASES where it will be heard by the Strategic Management Committee and possibly the Disciplinary Committee.
