Overview:

Practical aspects of strength and conditioning are considered and taught amid a scientific context. Instruction in the basic aspects of Olympic weightlifting will be covered, along with information regarding the construction of effective training programmes. Methods of strength testing and analysis are considered, from repetition maximum protocols to MuscleLab™ force velocity transducers to bioelectrical isometric maximum voluntary contraction. The programme is biased towards hands-on experience, with a range of practical tasks. Information will support applied practitioners in their approach to delivery using a variety of techniques.

Learning Outcomes of the Workshop:

After attending this workshop delegates will be able to:

  •  Instruct the basic aspects of Olympic Lifting
  • Construct effective training programmes
  • Gain experience and competence in different methods of strength testing

Presenter(s):

Colin Robertson is the Lead Strength and Conditioning Coach for the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences at Liverpool John Moores University. He is also the Head of Human Performance for Rugby League Ireland, as well as being the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Ireland International Rugby League Team.

Neil Parsley Is a senior Strength and Conditioning Coach for the English Institute of Sport, currently working with the GB Taekwondo Squad. Neil, an ex professional Rugby League player himself, has taken many Olympic athletes to the World stage, and he also writes for the Fighting Fit MMA magazine.

Dave Rydings Is a Strength and Conditioning Coach at Liverpool John Moores University and has been the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Everton Tigers Basketball Team since 2008, whilst also working with numerous EIS athletes. Prior to this, Dave worked out at Pacific in the USA and specialises in Team sport preparation
