He has taught and researched in sport and exercise biomechanics for over 20 years. He has contributed to many national and international conferences and has published widely on a variety of topics in Sport and Exercise Biomechanics. These topics include biomechanical analysis of sports skills, biomechanical techniques, biomechanics of injury and the biomechanics of muscle performance and training. He has been involved with providing biomechanical support for elite field event athletes for several years which has complemented his interest in the analysis of sports technique and strength development.
Dr Mark Lake is a reader in biomechanics and subject leader in biomechanics within the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences. Mark gained his undergraduate degree at Loughborough University before going on to do his Masters in Human locomotion studies at Penn State University, U.S.A (1990) and then completed his doctorate in Biophysics at the University of Guelph, Canada in 1995. He also worked for one year as a Sports Biomechanist with the United States Olympic Committee. Currently, he is programme leader for Sports Technology (Sports Science), which is a joint degree programme with the School of Engineering. His teaching areas include: Experimental Biomechanics (Sports Science Undergraduate and Postgraduate), Current issues in Biomechanics (Postgraduate) and Sports Equipment (Sports Science and Sports Technology Undergraduate).
Dr Phil Graham-Smith is a BASES Accredited Sport and Exercise Scientist (Biomechanics – Scientific Support) and is Head of the Directorate of Sport at the University of Salford. Phil is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with over 16 years of applied experience providing biomechanical assessments for UK Athletics and professional football clubs.
