Target Audience
Advanced: Targeted at those wishing to enhance their knowledge and experience of learning and teaching in Sport and Exercise Science.
Level of Delegate Interaction
There will be a 50:50 split between delivery of research in to learning and teaching and delegates reflecting upon teaching in their own disciplines. Interaction and peer dialogue will ensure that delegates have the opportunity to learn from each other.
Who Should Attend?
Those new to teaching who are committed to developing ways in which they engage students in learning about sport and exercise science and academics who are responsible for the enhancement of learning and teaching in their department.
A minimum of 15 people is needed for this workshop to run

Overview
Shulman (2005) identifies the concept of ‘signature pedagogies’, which indicate practices that are ‘pervasive, routine and habitual in their distinct subject area’. In order to enhance teaching we need to apply generic literature on student learning in higher education to the distinctive aspects of sport and exercise science. The workshop will combine the delivery of theory, research and local projects to identify some of the challenges associated with learning and teaching within this area.

Presenters
Dr Ian Sadler is Senior Lecturer in Exercise Physiology and Head of Programme for Sport and Exercise Science. He has published work on development of teachers in higher education and was awarded the Faculty Senior Learning and Teaching Enhancement Fellowship. Ian is an accredited member of the HEA.
Andreas Liefeith is a Senior Lecturer in Biomechanics. He has published work in the Journal of Hospitality, Leisure Sport and Tourism on practical work in Biomechanics. Andreas has completed a number of e-learning projects in the Faculty and is an accredited member of the HEA.
Dr Andrew Hill is a BASES Accredited Sport and Exercise Scientist (Research). He has conducted a number of HEA funded projects examining the influence of motivational variables on student experiences in sport and exercise science. Andy is an accredited member of the HEA.
Prof Andy Smith, MBE, FBASES. Andy is Professor of Exercise Science and aBASES Accredited Sport and Exercise Scientist (Research). He has many years of experience in leading quality assurance and enhancement of learning and teaching in the Faculty.
