The Research Institute for Sport and Exercise Sciences at Liverpool John Moores University is an internationally recognised research unit investigating physical activity and health related issues. In partnership with Liverpool PCT, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and Liverpool City Council we are seeking to appoint an Intervention Coordinator (Physical Activity Specialist) to manage the delivery of a family-based lifestyle intervention to tackle childhood obesity in Liverpool (Getting Our Active Lifestyles Started (GOALS).
We are looking for a pro-active individual to take responsibility for maintaining the efficient day to day running of the GOALS intervention, and to provide quality assurance for the intervention’s physical activity component. This operational management role will suit an individual with excellent organisational skills and physical activity knowledge who is committed to improving the health of Liverpool families. Duties will include managing recruitment to the intervention, coordinating timetables and staff rotas across several Liverpool sites, liaising with intervention venues, designing and adapting physical activity sessions and supervising physical activity coaches.
The position offers a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate to join a lively, multidisciplinary team working in partnership with local organisations. You will be a qualified coach (NGB level 2 or equivalent) with a degree in a sports or exercise related subject. At least one year’s experience coaching children plus experience of coordinating a complex project is essential.

You will have an appropriate research profile and will be expected to undertake research and knowledge transfer in the area of exercise and sport psychology. Key responsibilities and accountabilities:
1. Musculoskeletal Assessment, Testing and Interpretation a. Isokinetic Testing (Contrex® Dynamometer) b. Gait and Motion Analysis (Templo®; RSscan Footscan®) c. Flexibility (Goniometer; Subjective assessing) d. Posture Assessing (Plumbline; Posture Pro Biometric 6.0 ®) e. Pelvic/Core Strength and Stability
2. Performance testing – Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing; VO2Max; Lactate Profiling; Training Zones; Sport-Specific Assessments (Cortex CardioLyzer Ultra®; Cortex Metalyzer®)
3. Compile full comprehensible Reports on all areas (Isokinetics; Gait; Biomechanics; Flexibility; Posture; Pelvic/core condition) and develop Exercise Strategies
4. Maintain accurate assessment details and notes (file electronic and hard copies)
5. Design and deliver rehabilitation/exercise programmes
6. Provide appropriate advice and referrals to General Practitioners, Specialists and Allied Health Professionals
7. Developed, co-ordinate and control all testing according to Ki Performance Standard Operation Procedures and protocols
8. Report to Performance Director with client reports and management updates
9. Network and liaise with healthcare practitioners – Physiotherapists; Dieticians; Chiropracters; Osteopaths; GP’s; Consultants; Sports Massage Therapists
10. Research and Development • Ki Fit and Future Ki Performance Projects
11. Provide support for Ask an Expert (answer all Exercise-related questions for Ki Fit clients and public)
