Package Description: Competitive spot salary in the region of £60,000 Leadership opportunity for ambitious academic with international research profile.
Full Description: The University of Bedfordshire Faculty of Education, Sport and Tourism Department of Sport and Exercise Sciences Head of Department of Sport and Exercise Sciences Ref: ACEC3725 Competitive spot salary in the region of £60,000 Leadership opportunity for ambitious academic with international research profile The Faculty of Education, Sport and Tourism has undergone significant recent expansion and now has 4,000 students and over 100 academic staff in five departments providing over 50 undergraduate and taught postgraduate courses in Education, Sport and Tourism.
The Faculty has a dynamic approach to developing partnerships with employers, and provides a highly collegiate working environment for staff and students. The University has a diverse student body and growing international recruitment. Following a major strategic review and reorganisation in 2008/09 the Faculty is continuing to invest in areas of growth and is now seeking to recruit an ambitious staff member with an active interest in teaching, research and enterprise. An academic presence in the area of physical activity including physical education and dance and related disciplines has existed in Bedford for over 120 years (1882).
As part of that tradition and the academic vision required for long-term development, the Department of Sport and Exercise Sciences (SES) was created in 2009 following the restructuring of the School of Sport and PE. In recent years, there has been a major move into the STEM areas (physiology, biochemistry, genetics) as identified by the report into the discipline from the 2008 RAE. This has been recognised at UoB and all of the recent appointees have been in the STEM areas. We are fortunate to have a recent, £8 million exercise science laboratory and sport facilities development within which our research happens. All of the Departmental research activity occurs under the umbrella of the cross-Faculty Research Institute for Sport and Physical Activity Research (ISPAR). The research groups within ISPAR are Muscle Cellular and Molecular Physiology (MCMP), Applied Sport and Exercise Physiology (ASEP) and Physical Activity and Health (PAH). For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Professor Marilyn Leask, Dean of Education, Sport and Tourism via Sarah Blomfield PA to the Dean via email: sarah.blomfield@beds.ac.uk or tel: 01234 793428.
Due to UK Border Agency policy changes on immigration, we can only accept applications from Non EEA candidates who hold Tier 1 status and are able to work and reside in the UK with no restrictions or sponsorship of an employer required. Please download information and application forms from: www.beds.ac.uk/jobs Alternatively, application forms and further details may be obtained from the Human Resources Department, University of Bedfordshire, Park Square, Luton LU1 3JU. Tel: 01582 743390 (24 hour answering service) or email: employment.opportunities@beds.ac.uk Please quote reference number and job title. Please note CVs will only be accepted in addition to a fully completed application form.
Closing date: 17 February 2012. Interview date: 9 March 2012. The University is committed to equality of opportunity and values the diversity of all its workforce and student population. www.beds.ac.uk

Package Description: Lucozade are recruiting Sport Scientists to work at a variety of events on an ad-hoc basis throughout 2012 to deliver credible, engaging educational and product messages on effective hydration and nutrition for sport.
Salary From: Competitive daily rates Salary To: Competitive daily rates
Full Description: Should I apply? We are looking for people with the ability to translate science into a language understood by athletes from a range of sports and abilities, so they understand the relevance to them and their needs. If you can show us that you have a good grasp of the physiological and nutritional demands facing sport and exercise participants across our key sports of running, football and rugby, then keep reading.
If you have the ability to apply this knowledge to be able to give advice on strategies and techniques that are easy to understand, empathetic, credible and realistic, then this role will suit you. Being well-presented and having great communication skills is a must for this role, and you should be able to use these skills to motivate and influence people to have a positive impact on their sporting performance.
Whilst you will be working with a team on some occasions, many events require one Sport Scientist, so you need to be motivated and able to work independently to the highest standards, whatever the situation.
What experience do I need? A BSc or higher qualification in Sport Science, Nutrition or a related area. It is also essential that you have experience providing applied sport science and nutrition support to athletes, ideally across a range of sports from amateur to elite.
Anything else I should know? We want our ambassadors and employees to believe in our products as much as we do! This means you should be committed to working on behalf of Lucozade for the duration of your relationship with us, and avoid being directly or indirectly employed by any of our competitors. You should also be committed to preparing properly for each event, making sure you are familiar with the event you are working at and the content you are delivering. We would need you to commit to a minimum of 5 events throughout the year, with good availability during the whole of the third week of April. Whilst some events will be on weekdays, many will be on weekends. We may need you to travel away from home, with the odd event requiring an overnight stay.
What do I get in return? In return for your time we will pay competitive daily rates for all events worked as well as providing you with branded sports kit. Travel expenses will be reimbursed where appropriate.
Sounds great. How do I apply? Please send a copy of your CV with a short covering letter to vanessa.x.duncan@gsk.com.
Please note the closing date for receipt of applications is 18:00 GMT on Friday 17th February 2012. If your application has been successful we will contact you for a telephone interview within a week of the application closing date. Please can you indicate clearly on your application a contact telephone number where you can be contacted during office hours (i.e. 9am – 5.30pm Monday to Friday). If you have not been contacted within 2 weeks of the closing date for this application you should assume that you have been unsuccessful. Face-to-face interviews will take place during the week commencing Monday 27th February (location TBC), with a training day for successful applicants in London the following week.
