Description
The School of Sciences & Physical Education within the College of Education, University of Canterbury is seeking to appoint a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Exercise Physiology. Ideally the applicant will demonstrate a strong exercise physiology research and teaching background in a context of physical education and sport coaching.
It is anticipated that the successful applicant will take a leadership role in exercise physiology and contribute to the development of the exercise sciences into a world class research and teaching area. In accordance with the university and department philosophy the post-holder would be required to engage in continued professional development to achieve and maintain excellence in research and teaching in exercise physiology within the physical education and sport coach education domains.
The following are desirable for the position:
• Evidence of relevant and appropriate academic and professional qualifications (PhD level)
• Evidence of a ’strong track record’ of publication, in high quality peer-reviewed journals
• Evidence of experience in securing research funding
• Evidence of effective teaching at tertiary level
• Evidence of leadership and mentoring
The successful applicant will be expected to:
• Lead and contribute to the teaching of exercise science within undergraduate and post graduate courses in physical education teacher education and sports coaching.
• Lead and/or collaborate in research projects in the applicant’s specific area(s) of interest.
• Supervise postgraduate research students.
• Supervise and mentor under-graduate students while on teaching and/or coaching practicums.
It would be advantageous if applicants were able to demonstrate a good understanding of the nature of education systems and learning contexts. To do so specifically in a New Zealand context would also be of benefit but is not a requirement.
