Revision of BASES Laboratory Accreditation
BASES Laboratory accreditation has now been revised to allow the process to be more accessible to more of the membership and therefore acknowledge the high quality work throughout the BASES network in both research and applied environments. Traditionally, higher education was the domain for laboratory accreditation, but our membership has become far more diverse, which has recently been highlighted by the successful accreditation of laboratories at Wolverhampton Wanderers FC, and more recently Manchester United FC.
The new process which commenced following the 2007 BASES Laboratory Directors' Annual Meeting has been led by Dr Glyn Howatson from Northumbria University. This work is the culmination of numerous consultations with members of the laboratory accreditation group and a number of respected research and applied scientists within the BASES network. A more detailed overview of the process can be viewed in the summer edition of The Sport and Exercise Scientist page 22 and 23 (available from the Member Area) and provides an overview of the rationale and the key points that need to be met in order to achieve BASES Laboratory Accreditation. The revised application form and supporting documents will 'go live' from 1st July 2010 and can be downloaded from the BASES website http://www.bases.org.uk/Laboratory-Accreditation
Gratitude is extended to Dr Paul Bromley, Prof. Andy Jones FBASES, Prof. Alison McConnell, Dr Charles Pedlar, Dr Marcus Smith and Prof. Edward Winter FBASES, for their invited contribution to the consultation process.
