Sport-specific or reductionist?<< Back to Forum

I'd like to start the first debate here - There appears to be an increasing trend in Sport Psych to develop sport-specific measures for research. I welcome member’s views on the efficacy of this. While each sport has its own intricacies that foster different environments, Psychology, be it sport or otherwise, is still the study of human cognition and behaviour. Sport is often a great stage for the demonstration of human behaviour as a reaction to an environment. One might argue that this is not specific to sport and that the behaviour, in differing levels, is applicable across many psychological domains. So my question is… Are sport-specific measures the way forward or are they reductionist by their neglect of other areas of Psychology? John
