Hi All, welcome to the new forum to discuss anything Sport Psych-related. I would like to very much encourage discussions relating to research and practice. Perhaps you would like to share some research that you are currently working on, have just published or have just read? Alternatively, broader discussions regarding the application of Sport Psych always make for a good debate! This forum may also be a very useful tool for simply aiding communication and sharing of ideas. I look forward to your contributions. John Perry

Hi All, Thanks to John for starting the first thread. As I said in the e-mail I think this would be a good opportunity for people to introduce themselves to the group. As convener I will be looking to make this forum as productive as possible and will rely on the input from our members to ensure that this happen! I'll start...I am just really starting on my career path in sport psychology. I am 24 and have recently taken on a lecturing role. Before this I worked as a self employed sport psychology consultant. I am a BASES SE student and hope to have things wrapped up SE wise by September. I would describe my approach to applied work as being grounded in Gestalt/Humanistic principles. I have an interest in client perception and enhancing self awareness. From a research perspective my interests are predominately cognitive. I have conducted research which explores the imagery content and perceived function within different personality types. I am also interested in the effects of anxiety on performance; specifically in relation to attentional control and the demands placed on working memory. I am currently devising proposals to further explore these areas. I would be particularly interested in hearing from members who have experience in conducting research in these areas. I look forward to reading your posts. Elliott

Hi All, I want to start by saying I think all of this is an excellent idea and well done to Elliot and John for being so proactive. I'm 25 and work as a self-employed sport psychology consultant. I have a small but stable client base in a range of sports and also do a bit of lecturing. I have based SE and am working towards BASES accreditation now. The rest of my time I teach psychology to 6th formers and I think that is the way my career is heading with sport psychology becoming a hobby/ extra.

Hi all...I would like to join the interest group but no contact details are available at present on the forum homepage. I currently support athletes in a sports science/strength & conditioning capacity and wish to gain additional knowledge in sports psychology and its application in the hope that i may promote their future development and also my own. I have no past experience in conducting research in this area but look forward to sharing in your experiences and communicating with you all at some time in the future. Gareth
