Exercise for Health Practitioners

Mission Statement

To advance the support and recognition of sport and exercise scientists working in the health care and health and leisure settings.

Objectives of the Interest Group

Group (*the term exercise-for-health encompasses both primary and secondary prevention)
Develop a set of professional standards that meets the needs of clients and patients receiving exercise programmes and physical activity advice
Integrate professional standards into a professionally recognized qualification
Work in alliance with other health-care workers involved in promoting, providing or referring to *exercise-for-health services
Determine on-going CPD needs for the maintenance and advancement of relevant skills and knowledge
To pursue and promote the growth of members attaining the qualification of BASES Registered Exercise for Health Practitioner or BASES Accredited Sport & Exercise Scientist (related to exercise-for-health).

Relevancy of the Interest Group

The relevancy of this group is:

- to establish a firmer and more recognised professional standing and link between BASES and national health care services (public or private) and the health and fitness industry,

- make BASES a more relevant organisation to the wider population of sport & exercise scientists who are working outside the realms of research or outside the realms of high level sport science support

Uniqueness from existing BASES Interest Groups

There is at present no organized group within BASES that officially represents the needs of sport & exercise scientists working in the field of exercise-for-health, which solely aims to raise the quality of care for clients and patients in receipt of exercise-for-health programmes.
