The BASES Undergraduate Endorsement Scheme (BUES) awards endorsement to those sport and exercise science related courses that provide undergraduates with the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills essential to enter into the profession Endorsement is awarded to those courses that meet specific criteria covering the core areas of sport and exercise science. When reviewing a course, BUES will consider the curriculum, practical experience gained by students and resources available. What BUES does not aim to evaluate is the quality of the course - this is already done through internal quality assurance mechanisms under the auspices of the QAA.
Further details of the above criteria and of the application and review processes are provided in the BUES documentation.
Key Endorsement Criteria:
- Programmes should engage students for a minimum of 10% of student effort time in each of the three disciplinary areas of Biomechanics, Physiology and Psychology.
- A minimum of 5% of student effort time should be dedicated to providing students with exposure to the inter-disciplinary study of sport and exercise science.
- A minimum of 150 hours (total) of practical field-based/laboratory experience, across the three discipline areas, should be included in the programme.
- Programmes must include at least 5% of student effort time in ‘research methods’.
- The programme team must comprise at least two BASES Accredited Sport and Exercise Scientists

BUES Fees
The BUES fee for the first course submitted is £1,000 + VAT. The Endorsement application fee for additional courses is £250 + VAT per course. Endorsement will be for a period of five (5) years. During this period the Endorsed Course/s will be listed on the BASES Course Finder for free. A course would normally be defined as a collection of units or modules that lead to a named degree outcome. Many Institutions now offer a variety of routes or pathways that emanate from a common core at level 1. A collection of relevant routes or pathways that lead to different named degree outcomes could also be considered as a single course provided that they share at least 50% of common units/modules.
Please note BASES no longer accept cheques. When requesting an invoice please provide a purchase order number.
